Netflix launches “Pachamama” animated indigenist feature film from the Andes

Pachamama largometraje en Netflix El HEraldo de Cusco Noticias

More than 17 years ago, Juan Antin, Argentine director and scriptwriter, was sitting watching the sea in Cuba, while “he imagined seeing the conquerors’ boats arrive”, so he had a vision, that of making the film Pachamama. It took 14 years to turn that image into a feature film that premiered in 2017 in France. However, Pachamama is much more than just an animated film, it is a different vision of that distant era, because it shows the facts from the point of view of the invaded.

Tepulpaï and Naïra, two aboriginal children of the Andes, go in search of a relic, a totem that protects their people and that has been confiscated by the Inkas. This search will take you to Cusco, the capital of the Inka empire besieged by the conquerors.

Pachamama was released in France a couple of years ago and now Netflix has purchased the rights to the film and it is already on Netflix for the enjoyment of Latin American families.

Marta Garcia, from the portal Latamcinema.com, wrote in 2018: “To materialize the project, the director and scriptwriter made vital decisions: he agreed to change the animation technique (from the original stop motion to 3D and 2D); and from Buenos Aires he moved to France to make the film in Folivari, a studio led by Didier Brunner, former president of the company Les Armateurs. The studio, which also has in its production catalog with the adaptation of “O menino e o mundo” to series, is the majority producer with the French O2B films, the Luxembourgish Doghouse Films and the Canadian Kaïbou Production. The coproductoras French Haut et Court Distribution and Blue Spirit Studio complete the scheme. “

In the same portal he sums up: “A Latin American history with an indigenous vision led by the Argentinean Juan Antín (“Mercado, the Martian”) and made in France in co-production with Luxembourg and Canada. This is “Pachamama“, a film set in a colorful and musical Andean universe written in four hands by Antín himself with Patricia Valeix, Olivier de Bannes and Nathalie Hertzberg. Oriented towards a family audience, “Pachamama” follows the adventures of Tepulpaï and Naïra, two children from the Andes Mountains, who leave for Pachamama until they reach Cuzco, capital besieged by the conquest. “

We hope that all Latin Americans and especially Peruvians can enjoy this feature film, which is already available on Netflix. We leave you here the Trailer in French (original) and in English.
